I had a very productive afternoon cleaning my bathroom today. I think the most important thing to remember about cleaning is that if you make it a chore, it becomes a chore. It's all about mindset!
I decided that it was high time I deep cleaned this baby! Honestly, I'm 22, so I should probably be cleaning my bathroom more than I do, but at least I'm admitting that. Acknowledgement is the first step in recovery after all! I think the thing that motivates me the most is music or podcasts. It's so easy to get caught up in what you're listening to that you forget how much time has gone by. A few songs in, and the bathtub is already clean!
Having a good mindset when you have things that need to get done is the best way to get them done quickly. Disclaimer, I am one of those weird people that likes organizing things so that may also work to my advantage. But mindset is something anyone can do, as Mary Poppins puts it "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, in the most delightful way". Necessary things that aren't always so fun can be more pleasant when you give it a chance.
This mindset can carry over into anything, not just washing your bathtub. From a job you dislike to that one chore you always hate to do, putting a positive spin on things can make the time go by quicker. Ever wonder why an hour at work can feel like 3 but 3 hours of Netflix feels like one? Your mind enjoys watching Netflix and finds whatever you're tuned into interesting enough to be devoted attention. Imagine if you could apply that devotion to work or cleaning or school, think of all the things you could accomplish!
In life, you should take that positive mindset and allow it to brighten up your experiences, your interactions, and your thoughts. A little bit of sunshine goes a long way to brighten a dreary day!
